Founded by Roberto Ginnelli in 1972, San Filippo is a small, Montalcino-based estate spanning 11 hectares of vines mostly planted to Sangiovese. The property boasts a main farmhouse and small on-site chapel, the latter of where the estate’s wines age underground. San Filippo’s four main vineyards include Le Lucere, La Storta, La Raffiche, and La Smarrita, all of which are planted very close to the famed Il Grepo vineyard of Biondi Santi. Fruit is grown in clay-dominant soils rounded out with some limestone and marl, and all wines age in a combination of Slavonian and Allier oak casks.
